Naval Base San Diego is the principal homeport of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of 57 Navy ships, 2 Coast Guard cutters and home base to 150 separate commands, each having specific and specialized fleet support purposes. Comprised of over 2,000 land acres and 326 acres of water, Naval Base San Diego also includes outlying entities like Commander, Navy Region Southwest headquarters located downtown San Diego and the Naval Medical Center in Balboa Park.

Naval Base San Diego to hold change of command ceremony

SAN DIEGO - Capt. Winton Smith will take command of Naval Base San Diego during a ceremony July 15.

Smith will relieve Capt. Rick Williamson who has served as commanding officer since 2008. Williamson will go on to serve as the Deputy Director of Plans and Policies for Commander, Naval Installations Command.

Naval Base San Diego Photovoltaic Projects

Naval Base San Diego Environmental Projects

Aging waterfront structures and a substandard basketball court were transformed into a first-class multi-use outdoor work-out facility including a synthetic ¼ mile running track, full-size modern basketball court, workout stations and picnic areas; providing a convenient workout area on the waterfront.

Naval Base San Diego; a home for HA/DRs

Naval Base San Diego is the hub and home for Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response (HA/DR) efforts that bring comfort and hope to countries and communities around the world. The 59 home-ported ships, 120 tenant commands, and 30,000 Navy personnel and their families who call the base their home, are ambassadors for the United States through the Navy whenever they provide relief to those in need.
