SAN DIEGO– Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) invites the general public to attend the second-annual Holiday Lights Open House Dec. 14 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

NBSD will open its gates to allow military and civilian traffic to drive along a marked waterfront route to view ships’ holiday decorations, to tour designated U.S. Navy ships and to attend a Holiday Festival.

Admission is free and families are welcome.

Attendees can experience entertainment provided by the Navy Band Southwest and enjoy meeting Sailors from various Navy commands. Gate 2, located on Harbor Drive near the NASSCO ship yard and the main gate located on 32nd street will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will end at 9 p.m.

Take advantage of this opportunity to see the world’s finest surface ships- the same ships that keep our shipping lanes open by combating pirates off the coast of Africa, serve as ambassadors of goodwill in third world countries, and provide humanitarian assistances to those impacted by natural disasters. These are the same deployable units that continuously add to the substantial level of stability and security the Navy provides across the globe.

There will be a prescribed tour route for cars to drive along to view ships moored along the piers and guests will have the opportunity to park at the end of the route and tour a Navy ship.

We are committed to ensuring that you have a safe and fun experience at Naval Base San Diego.  We ask for your cooperation in keeping potentially dangerous items safely outside the installation. To speed up the process, there will be checkpoints at all venue entrances, as well as at the entrance to the pier for ship tours.  All bags will be inspected, and all individuals are subject to search prior to entering the venue gates, or onto the pier.  It is recommended that spectators minimize the number and size of permitted items to reduce the inspection time prior to access into the venue gates. Please note that this security applies to all military and civilian personnel and is in effect throughout the year.

ALL adults need to have a VALID U.S. issued form of identification.  To bring your vehicle onto a military base, you must have a valid driver’s license, current registration and physical proof of insurance (Insurance card).  If driving a rental car, valid driver’s license, proof of insurance & car rental agreement will be required.  Pedestrians will not be allowed to enter the gate.  To participate in this event, you must drive your vehicle.

The following items are prohibited inside the venue and subject to confiscation:
• Weapons (regardless of permit) including firearms, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), replica or toy weapons, pepper spray or stun guns
• Alcoholic beverages, unless purchased from approved vendors
• Ice chests or coolers
