According to the Navy League’s website, Alexander Kreiglowa, whose name the scholarship is dedicated, was born in Norwich, CT 90 years ago.  He joined the Navy at the age of 16, served in the Navy over 20 years and retired as a chief petty officer, in 1957. This was the highest enlisted rank in the Navy at that time.

During his time in the Navy, Kreiglowa served on 10 different ships and spent nearly 17 years at sea.  He trained young recruits at the Naval Training Center for over three years.  According to Kreiglowa, this assignment required long hours, however he found the work very satisfying.

When asked about the scholarship, Kreiglowa replied, "I always worked hard to get ahead and now, I want to give something back to the Navy and my country.  The Navy was very good to me and I think this is one way I can give back.  I want this scholarship money to go to students who have a strong desire to get ahead and accomplish things."

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt.  The Navy League is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including our elected officials, and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families.
