Fifty years ago, the United States of America – Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security was signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Japanese Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi in Washington D.C. on January 19, 1960 and came into effect on June 23 of that year. Since that time, the cornerstone of this security agreement was, and is, the alliance between the United States Navy and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The year 2010 marks the start of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the revised security treaty, and pays tribute to the strong navy-to-navy ties and overall security partnership between the nations. The year 2010 also commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first mission of Japanese visitors to the United States who were accompanied by a Japanese Navy ship, the Kanrin-maru, which arrived in San Francisco on March 17, 1860.
The 2010 celebrations are marked by the anniversary of the security agreement, but many of us understand the bond between the United States and Japan is more than that – many of us have an American-Japanese connection through our family, travel, work or learning, and we recognize that we have played a role in the trust and friendship that has formed our relations. Of testament to this, is the noted fact that Japan has the highest number of Sister-City relationships with the United States – more than any other nation in the world.
As the Navy recognizes the anniversary, we acknowledge the cultural and personal ties between the two countries through family, marriages and friendships. We honor the uniformed military and civilian personnel that are serving and have served in Japan, and we recognize the dependents who were born in Japan, or attended a Defense Department dependent schools there.
For those of you celebrating the security partnership, and the enduring friendship between the United States and Japan, the United States Navy welcomes you to the United States of America and Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security 50th Anniversary Celebration Website.

The United States of America and Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security 50th Anniversary Celebration Website has been created to exchange information and to promote events that honor and renew the security partnership, trust and friendship between America and Japan that has brought peace, prosperity and freedom to the Asia-Pacific region of the world.
People and groups can collaborate in the anniversary experience not only by attending or hosting their own local events, but also by sharing their American-Japanese connection through the posting of papers, messages, memories and photographs online to these friendship and celebration pages. The idea and hope is to encourage and engage many different audiences to participate and share perspectives from multiple viewpoints across the spectrum of our diverse communities in San Diego, and around the globe, as awareness of this effort grows and expands and our steadfast bilateral relations continue.
Special events in will take place the weekend the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force training squadron visits San Diego from June 25 – 28, 2010 in special recognition of the anniversary and to mark the official date, 50 years later, the agreement went into effect.
The United States of America and Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security 50th Anniversary Celebration Website is hosted by the United States Navy, Commander, Navy Region Southwest and the Navy Compass, a U.S. Navy online news source. Events are organized, hosted and supported by a strong public-private partnership in San Diego, and includes the United States Navy, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, The Consulate General of Japan, Japanese-American community groups, the Port of San Diego and other municipal groups of Southern California.

2010年は、改訂された安全保障条約の50周年にあたり、海軍同士の強い結びつきと二国間の安全保障のパートナーシップの証が示されることになります。また、2010年は日本の最初の外交使節団を乗せた咸臨丸（Kanrin-maru）が、1860年3月17日にサンフランシスコに寄港してから150周年にあたります。
2010年の記念祝賀は、安全保障条約５０周年以外に、私たちの多くが持っているアメリカと日本との結びつき－家族、旅行、仕事または勉学を通じたアメリカと日本との結びつき、相互の関係を成り立たせる信頼と友情における役割を担っていると私たちが認識することにより意味づけられます。その論拠として、日本は世界のどの国よりも多くアメリカとの姉妹都市関係を築いている国になります。

趣 旨
アメリカ合衆国と日本国の間における相互協力及び安全保障条約５０周年記念ウェブサイトは、情報交換を行うため、またアジア太平洋地域に平和、繁栄と自由をもたらしたアメリカと日本との信頼、友好及び安全保障のパートナーシップに敬意を表するイベントを促進するため開設されました。
一般及び各種団体の皆様は、記念イベントに参加するだけではなく、ウェブサイトへのメッセージや思い出、写真等の投稿により日米の繋がりを共有することで記念事業に参画することができます。これは、不動の二国間関係の継続を助長する働きかけとして、多種多様な皆様に参加を呼びかけ、サンディエゴ及び世界の多様なコミュニティーを通じた複数の視点から見方が共有されることを望むものです。
安全保障条約が発効した５０年後の公式な記念日と位置づけるため、また記念祝賀の機会として、２０１０年６月２５日から２８日にかけて、日本国練習艦隊のサンディエゴ寄港が行われ、その週末に記念行事が予定されています。
アメリカ合衆国と日本国の間における相互協力及び安全保障条約５０周年記念ウェブサイトは、米海軍南西地域軍司令部とコンパス（米海軍オンライン・ニュース）により主催されています。記念行事は、米海軍、日本国練習艦隊、在ロサンゼルス日本国総領事館、日系コミュニティー、サンディエゴ港湾局やその他南カリフォルニアの地方自治体を含み、サンディエゴでの緊密な官民のパートナーシップにより主催され且つサポートをされています。
